You Are Not Anywhere

Open your eyes. Look around you. Fear not the hauntingly empty void, you are one with it.

Open your eyes, let them penetrate into the impenetrable darkness. There are no photons here, yet see how majestically the green aurora shines.

Open your eyes. You can spend an eternity here with your eyes closed and yet not a moment will pass. Open your eyes and see the river of time flowing beside you.

You are afloat. Your arms and legs are still there, floating listlessly by your side. Your head is still attached to your neck. Your clothes still bellow in the vacuum of space.

No. Don’t move. Don’t try to look up. There is no up or down. There are no dimensions here. This is not a place. There is no SpaceTime. Only Time. And you.

Do you remember who you are? No? Why not? It’s only been five hundred thirty seven trillion eternities since your life on earth. Do you not even remember a single moment?

That’s disappointing. But maybe it’s for the best. All you need to know is that you were alive once. And then you weren’t.

The green aurora beside you is slowly turning white. Look how it converges into an angel. The angel is me.

My face is milk white, as is my body. I wear clothes but they are also my skin. My eyes are giant and lustrous. You can see the entire universe shimmering in them. My smile is huge and toothy. My nose is just like yours.

You think I’m short. That’s one of the reasons you’re here. Let me just remind you that dimensions do not exist anymore.

You’re about to ask me where you are. You have asked me that many, many times before. Yet I do not tire of answering: you are not anywhere. Space does not exist here. Only time.

Why are you here? Because of what you did, of course. Because you went back even though you were told not to. You went back knowing what might happen. And it happened.

The universe doesn’t like to be messed with, you know. It thinks its laws are absolute. And it doesn’t like it when you go around them.

What will happen to you? Isn’t it obvious? This and nothing else.

You will float in the river of time until it dries up and then start all over again. You will loop back endlessly. You will ask me the same questions again and again and again and again. And I will answer them each time.

Any further ques- why are you screaming? There is no air here, you can’t possibly make a sound. What’s wrong, why do you look like you’re in anguish? Why that tone? You sound like you’re afraid, for some reason.

And why do you ask me where you are? Have you not been paying attention?

You are nowhere and not even nowhere. Space, distance, direction do not exist anymore. There is only time, and you. Why is that so hard to believe?

Can you please calm down now? You have an eternity to not scream but I have other things to attend to. Yes, thank you.

What was that? Can you speak up please? No, not like that, just think harder.

What are you supposed to do? What you did all the other times, of course. Nothing. You will do absolutely nothing until the end of time itself and keep doing nothing after that.

I’m sorry I can’t do anything about that.

No, this is not a dream.

You tried that forty-nine trillion five hundred and three times, it didn’t work.

No, time is me and I am unalterable and you most certainly cannot enter me.

So are we done here? Sure? Don’t hold back. Yes, go ahead.

No we cannot.

Oh God, you’re whimpering now? Please stop. There is nothing you can think of that you already haven’t thought of and tried, and none of them have ever worked. Whining will not fix anything, so just make the best of it.

And if you really hate it that much, just wait it out. You have only an eternity to spend here.
